Dear ‘Run for A Lifers’,
I am sure you agree that the glorious sunshine on Saturday September
the 12th made it a perfect day for the inaugural Astellas FUN
RUN, not to mention the beautiful scenery around the Blessington
lakes! More than 125 people took part and we raised thousands
of euro for the Irish Kidney Association and the organ transplant
units at Beaumont Hospital, St Vincent’s University Hospital
and Mater Misericordiae hospital, as well as helping to raise
awareness for the issue of organ donation. And when I say ‘we’,
I mean you! So, thank you.
A big thank you as well to all the runners, walkers and cyclists
who participated. We had people of all ages and levels of fitness
taking part. Thanks as well to those who volunteered their time
and energy to help make Saturday a day for SUN and FUN!

Congratulations to the winners: Colin
White for the 3KM, Tony Gartland for the 6KM and Owen Dooley for
the 6KM and 15KM Cycle. Congratulations as well to those who participated
in the World Transplant Games in Australia in August, especially
to Tony Gartland, who came back from Australia after winning the
Silver medal in the 5km Road Race, the Silver in the 1500m track,
and the Gold-and a new world record- in the 5km race walk. What
a huge achievement!
As you know, we hope to make Run for a Life an annual affair, getting
bigger and bolder each year. We are extremely grateful to those
who showed up to help raise funds and awareness for organ donation.
Stay tuned for news on next year’s event!
